Mining sites offer a great variety of landscapes and unique habitats which frequently become a last refuge for many rare animal and plant species.
The “Quarry Life Award” is a way to raise the knowledge of the biological value of mining sites and to further protect biodiversity.
More than 50 participating quarries from 18 countries in Europe, Central Asia and Africa will open their doors for research projects. The national and international competitions will simultaneously take place in 2012 with prizes from 1500 euro up to 30000 euro for the top international winner. Students and researchers can participate on their own or in teams.
Find out more about the participating sites near you and register your project proposal by 17th February 2012.
