The quarry in Sterlitamak, Bashkortostan, Russia joined the QLA contest in the final straight.

Universities in Ufa, the capital of Bashkortostan, and Sterlitamak, an industrial city of the republic, were the last, but not least to join the Quarry Life Award competition. The presentation of the program took place in the State University and State Pedagogical University of Bashkortostan. The program was especially enthusiastically accepted in Ufa State Oil Technical University (Sterlitamak branch).

Scientific society of the republic knows Shakh-Tau quarry, its Geological Museum and the cement plant quite well and is eager to positively affect public opinion concerning the social responsibility of HeidelbergCement who is committed to managing biodiversity during and after extraction. Researchers and students via their projects sponsored by HeidelbergCement will make a contribution to improving ecological situation in the region, raising the knowledge of the biological value of mining sites, protecting and promoting biodiversity.

I, as national QLA coordinator, would like to express appriciation to Professor Shakirov, Professor Seyfert, Ms.Bakhonina for their involvement, commitment to environmental issues and cooperative attitude. I want also to thank for support the Raw Material company staff: chief engineer Mr.Zakharov, chief geologist Mr.Galliulin and general director Mr.Shkurko. We all know that the main winner in this competition is Nature.
